Have you ever thought about how many people have stayed in your hotel room? It’s probably an enormous amount of people, right? 62% of rooms in all US hotels are occupied at any given time. That is a lot of people staying in hotels. While the cleaning staff do indeed clean the rooms, there are some things that are not cleaned properly.
Things that are not cleaned at all:
- Light Switches
- Remotes
- Phones
- Door Knobs
- Couches
- Throw Pillows
Things that are cleaned a few times a year
- Bedspread
- Floors
Interesting facts:
- the norm for cleaning hotel bedspreads and comforters is once every four months
- hotel room floors, especially carpets, are typically only cleaned twice a year
Things that are not cleaned properly:
- Toilet
- Bathroom Counter
- Glasses
Interesting facts:
- all of these things are often cleaned using the same rag and in no particular order
- one study found that 11 out of 15 hotels never take used glasses out of hotel rooms to properly clean and sanitize them.
There you have it. Hotel rooms are not as clean as we think. Ditch the bedspread and invest in some plastic cups and Lysol wipes and you should be fine!
